What is sustainable tourism?

“Tourism that takes full account of its current and future economic, social and environmental impacts, addressing the needs of visitors, the industry, the environment and host communities” (UNWTO)

We are now on a new journey. One that will take us to a brighter, fairer future of travel. The time to change is upon us and we must do it collectively. Kleemann Tours values all who work with us – their individuality, knowledge, expertise, and hard work.

Our aim is to:

Consider our impact on the environment.
Manage our carbon footprint through the actions outlined in this policy
Measure and strive to reduce our waste production and our energy and water consumption.
Strive to reduce our usage of other natural resources, thereby helping to protect and conserve the environment and the flora and fauna within it.
Organize responsible holidays.
Seek out smaller, local, community-owned suppliers.
Ethical purchasing – to buy products and services produced in a way that minimises social or environmental damage. To avoid products and services that have a negative impact.
Be fair to business partners, who should be able to make a fair profit when working with us.
Work with the wider tourism industry to innovate and encourage responsible practices.

KLEEMANN TOURS is committed to implementing the following initiatives:

Publish our sustainability policy on our webpage.

Calculate our carbon footprint and invest in carbon-reducing initiatives through insetting.

Implement internal and external (staff/tour guides) procedures to deliver the action plan.
To continuously improve. We will gather information on any other actions needed to help us improve and further reduce our impact on the environment.

Cultural

Inspire those who come in contact with us to make positive changes in their own lives or businesses.
Demonstrate cultural respect and awareness while selecting and promoting services.
Promote tours for smaller groups with programmes that give the opportunity to not only see but to experience the country and its culture.

Remote Working Policy

Energy. We encourage our staff to be energy efficient, by adoption the following:

Aim to use a 100% renewable energy provider where possible
Set computers and other devices to ECO settings
Use LED light bulbs where possible, windows can maximise the use of daylight. Hold off switching on lights in the evening until absolutely necessary.
Use smart power strips / plugs that turn off devices when not in use
Heaters, lights, electronic equipment or computer devices to be switched off at the end of each day or when not in use for longer than an hour – switched off not standby mode
Turn down heating / hot water settings to a lower temperature, heaters are only recommended to be on when the home office is cold and occupied
Try to reduce the need for heating in the cooler months by layering up and using a hot water bottle and/or having a hot drink. Close curtains to keep heat in, but open them in the morning to let the heat of the sun in
Avoid unnecessary emailing, cc’ing, bcc’ing, sharing or saving of large digital files to reduce energy consumption – think before you send / download
Consider switching to an environmentally friendly search engine like Ecosia or OceanHero

Waste. We encourage our staff to:

Reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill – especially single-use plastics.
Compost, recycle, and use FSC certified/recycled paper.
No more physical travel documents.
No more printed marketing material.
By implementing these no-print polices, we reduced our usage of paper by 95% in 2023.

Water. We encourage our staff to:

Use water-saving toilets.
Install water-saving shower heads.
Fix household leaks.
To collect and use rainwater for garden work.

Biodiversity: We encourage our staff to:

Engage in pollinator-friendly planting by giving every staff member a budget and information for planting pollinator friendly plants
Participate in the No Mow May campaign
